What Am I Now / 2025
When I came upon this old battered up trough from 1930s Germany I couldn´t help to think about all the things it must have been through these past 90 years. I enjoyed the rectangular form with the carved-out oval hole. It seemed to be a shape that I would have wanted to make myself, but without all the wear and tear I am not sure it would have been as attractive.
The frame that supports the heavy trough is made of armor steel salvaged from the former Central Bank of Sweden (Sveriges Riksbank) in Växjö when it was renovated a few years ago. And as it turns out the armor steel from the old bank vault is even older than the trough it now lifts up.
Now that the trough no longer serves its original purpose, I have chosen to use it for something much les actionpacked; for my keys and cap in the studio.
This piece was originally made for the Functional Clay exhibition arranged by Peach Corner Gallery during 3 Days of Design 2025
